Trustees Needed

The Prison Phoenix Trust CIO is a charity which encourages prisoners and prison staff in the development of their spiritual welfare, through the practices of meditation and yoga, working with silence and the breath.

We offer personal support to prisoners and prison staff around the UK and the Republic of Ireland through teaching, workshops, correspondence, books and newsletters. We work with people of any faith, or of none, and honour all recognised religions.  More information about the Trust is available on our website:

We are looking for volunteers for the role of Trustee.

We are looking for people who understand and support the aims and principles of the PPT and who are willing to share responsibility for the strategic direction and governance of the charity.  Trustees attend meetings four times a year, usually on Tuesday evenings. Meetings are held in Oxford but can be attended using video conferencing. There is an annual Away Day with the staff team which Trustees are encouraged to attend in person.

We aspire to have a diverse Board with a balance of skills, experience, backgrounds and knowledge. We are particularly interested in hearing from those:

  • who have served a prison sentence
  • who work in the prison environment
  • from minority faith and ethnic groups
  • with experience in finance
  • with a particular interest or experience of personal health and wellbeing
  • with a particular interest or experience in promotional work through social media or other technology platforms.

Appropriate induction and training will be given.

You will be joining a friendly team of Trustees, volunteers and paid staff to help support a unique and effective organisation that offers hope and support to people who live and work in prison.

If you’re interested, please email the Chair of the Prison Phoenix Trust, Jo Child, at to arrange an exploratory conversation.

Closing date for applications: 8 November 2021.
